Weekend Images! Vintage Shopping
Lately I found that my wardrobe needed a really great everyday wool cardigan sweater that wasn't in black or grey (which is pretty much my whole wardrobe). I thought buying it vintage would be GREAT! I have always LOVE the idea of vintage shopping! Finding great fashion that's back in style for a fraction of the price! I really don't know what I'm doing when it comes to vintage shopping so I called my friend who is pretty much the vintage queen, in my eyes. She always seems to be wearing something great that's vintage. We spent a good 4 hours shopping on Saturday and these are the places we went.
And here is my new cardigan sweat! It's exactly what I wanted!

I'm hooked! I can't wait to hit up the shops again!

Faux Fireplace
So we have this non-working fireplace in our living room, which I think is a bonus! To be honest I don't think it was ever a working fireplace since there is no chimney that comes from it?!
I find the fireplace a real focal point and a great way to ground the space with decorating. But what do I do when I can't have a roaring fire? I did some extensive internet research and found a great deal of candle inspiration which seemed to be a pretty standard option. But would be great if you still wanted that glow of light. Then I came across and fell in love with the look of stacking wood into the fireplace opening. It's visually interesting and natural looking! A great solution to the problem! So I headed on over to the local nursery and purchased two 8 foot long birch logs and a few smaller logs, thinking I would have enough. I asked my dad to cut them into 2 inch sections to be easily piled on top of each other.
I think it turned out great but I still need more!!!!Enjoy!

Whoopin it up with Whoopie Pies! Part 2
It was a friends Birthday at work today and as much as I LOVE making cupcakes, I was ready for a change this time around. Awhile back I made Carrot Whoopie Pies which turned out great! So I decided Whoopie Pies was the way to go. With my internet search, I came across Bakerella (of course) where she posted about a recipe that she got from a book that was all about Whoopie Pies. She went with the Chocolate Whoopie Pies with peanut butter filling.
After you mix up the batter, drop it by spoonfuls on a parchment covered baking sheet.
After whoopies are baked, wait 5 mins to cool and carefully remove them from the parchment paper.
Place them flat side up on a cookie rack.
Then you can spoon the filling or pipe it. I piped to keep it clean!
Sandwich the filling between two of the cakes and press gently together!Enjoy!
Classic Chocolate Whoopie
By Whoopie Pies
1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
4 tablespoons vegetable shortening (I didn't have any shortening so I just used more butter)
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup milk
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
- Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, sift together, flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat butter, shortening and sugar with a mixer on low until just combined. Increase speed to medium and beat for about 3 minutes.
- Add egg and vanilla and beat for two more minutes.
- Add half of the flour mixture and half of the milk and beat on low until incorporated. Repeat with remaining flour and milk and beat until combined.
- Using a tablespoon, drop batter on baking sheet two inches apart. Bake for about 10 minutes each or until pies spring back when pressed gently.
- Remove from oven and cool for about five minutes before transferring them to a rack to cool completely.
1 Tbsp of batter should make about 48 two-inch cakes or 24 pies.
2 Tbsp of batter should make about 30 four-inch cakes or 15 pies.
Peanut Butter Filling
from Whoopie Pies
3/4 cup creamy peanut butter (or crunchy)
3/4 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
3/4 cup confectioners sugar
- Beat peanut butter and butter on low until creamy using a mixer.
- Add sugar and salt and beat on low to incorporate. Increase speed to medium and beat for about four minutes until the filling is light and fluffy.
- Spread filling on flat side on one cooled cake. Top it with a second cake and press gently.

Weekend Images!
Now I know it isn't Monday and I'm way late on this post, but I thought the pictures were so cute of Jack (my nephew) and I that I had to share!
This past weekend my sister, Jack and I took my mom on a shopping weekend to the states! I started feeling ill Friday morning but I didn't let a cold stop me. So we all headed on down to Buffalo Friday night to start our shopping frenzy! Little did I know my cold would take over my life (I'm just getting over it now). With my cold in full affect I tried my best to enjoy the time with my mom. The only good thing about my cold was that I didn't spend as much money...!!

Weekend Images! It's a cold one!
This past weekend was a cold one. Even with the sun out on Saturday it was still -18 °C with the wind chill of -30 °C!!! There was no way Denis, Nacho and I were stepping outside! So to keep warm we stayed in, watching downloads of The Big Bang Theory.Nacho and I tried to take a walk to snap some pictures...
but that didn't last too long. The clear blue sky reminded me how the days are getting longer and wishing spring would come faster. I'm not a big fan of winter!
Hope everyone else had a warmer weekend!Later!

2010 Christmas Portrait!
Now that Christmas has long past and all of our families and close friends have seen the photo, I can now share it with all you guys!
It's always a highlight picking up the photos from the Walmart photo studio because you never know what the people behind the counter will say! This time around when the girl handed me the photos she said 'It's really great how you guys incorporated your love for skiing' and I was like, 'we don't even ski!' haha!

Weekend Images! Light Graffiti!
I'm always looking for fun new ways to play with my SLR and what I came up with is Light Graffiti! All you need to do is grab any light source, a tripod or flat surface, slow your shutter speed between 5 to 30 seconds, change your ISO to 200 or lower and snap away! Easy!
It took me some time to get the hang of it.
Denis + Shevon
And of course I had to get Nacho involved!

LA Christmas!
Did I tell you guys that Denis and I went to Los Angeles for Christmas? Well we did and it was SO much fun!
Here are some highlights from the trip.
Drove our rental car to Santa Monica to walk the pier and do some outdoor shopping.

Had Christmas dinner at The Stinking Rose. Which was DEE-lish! Everything was made with garlic, even the ice cream had garlic in it! The food and atmosphere was great, but Denis and I were two stinky people!! HA!

There was nothing really open on Christmas day so Denis and I decided to head on over to Universal Studios, which turned out to be a lot of fun. The best part was splurging on buying the front of the line passes because it was PACKED!

Walked around the Grauman's Chinese Theatre and looked at all the footprints.

Ended our holiday by enjoying my very first IN-N-OUT burger.

Even though we had a blast I was kind of sad without my whole family around.

HELLO!!!
Hey All!!
It has been awhile....It's funny how Denis and I decided to miss Christmas so we could relax and be stressed free but I stayed up late ever night for the 2 weeks before Christmas stressing and trying to get everything done before LA! Ha! It's really my own fault. I bring all the stress on myself with, baking, crafting, wrapping and so much more!
Here are a few things I was up to:
I had a few custom finger puppet orders to do.
I made about 100 mini cupcakes for a bake sale my work was have to help raise money for a needed family.
I made red velvet mason jar cupcakes for friends at work. I got the DIY from here. You can also CLICK HERE to see more of my pics.
I made peanut butter chunky balls for an office treat. CLICK HERE to see step by step instructions.
Went to a friends house for craft night.

And when all the festivities were over, I spent my time being very lazy with Denis and Nacho. I think I was a little to lazy, because I'm having a hard time getting back into routine.
Hope everyone had a great Holiday and an even better New Year!!
